On the 21st of February, noted entrepreneur, industrial designer, engineer, centibillionaire and space explorer Elon Musk dropped a simple tweet to his 47.7 million followers.
The tweet was a link to the comedy sketch; Bitcoin Explained by award winning Australia comedy group Cameralla. Troy is a founding member of the group and appears in the sketch as a disgruntled shop owner trying to avoid the burden of new currencies in the year 698 BC.
On the Cameralla YouTube channel, the sketch was sitting at around 200K views. Since Musk published the tweet that has jumped to well over 1M, with the channel itself gaining an additional 20K subscribers.
Bitcoin Explained achieved recognition in 2018, being nominated for a prestigious AACTA AWARD in the category of BEST ONLINE VIDEO OR SERIES. The sketch also went viral on Facebook in early 2018 garnering over 4M views.
Troy had this to say:
"Elon Musk strikes me as a pretty busy bloke, what with trying to send people to Mars among other endeavors, so the notion that he had the time to sit and watch our sketch is astonishing. More so, he enjoyed it enough to share it with his 47 million Twitter followers. It's so mind blowing. I was fascinated to see what the response would be and I'm overjoyed that it's extremely positive. The most awesome part of this has been reading the outpouring of wonderful comments and letters of support from the wider cryptocurrency community.”
